When a works order is raised for an assembly, a kit list is created from information held in the Assemblies module. The method used to issue each partnumber in the kit list to the works order depends on the partnumber’s issue type, held in the partnumber’s stock record in the Store module.

These are the various issue types and how they are handled by Herschel:

As Part of Kit

The partnumber is issued to the works order prior to manufacture. The partnumber is specifically withdrawn from stock for the order. This is the most controlled type of issue and it is the only one that guarantees stock accuracy. It is also the only issue type that allows traceability to be maintained.

Bulk Issued

The partnumber is issued to the shopfloor in bulk (for example, a box of fasteners) prior to the manufacture of the works order. These partnumbers are issued to the shopfloor using the Store module’s issue from stock option. This type of issue is ideal for low cost items, where stock accuracy is not crucial.

Back Flushed

The partnumber is not issued prior to the manufacture of the works order. Instead, the quantity of the partnumber used is deducted from stock when the works order (or part of it) is completed and received into stock. This type of issue can be used in a JIT (just-in-time) environment. It is more accurate than bulk issue, but not as accurate as issuing as part of a kit.

Tooling

These partnumbers are issued to the shopfloor using the Store module’s issue from stock option. This type of issue is ideal for tooling and gauges, where the quantity required by an order does not vary with the quantity of items to be produced.

Not Issued

The partnumber is not issued to the works order at all. This issue type allows items to be added to an assembly for reference purposes.
